Process

There are 4 parts that you must complete in order to become successful in your Quest!

1. The class will be split up into five groups. Each group will randomly be assigned to a different destination. As a group, you will start by brainstorming everything you know about that destination. Find out if anyone in your group has ever visited there before, too! Once you have finished, research as many facts as you can about the destination. This should be done primarily on this Web Quest website, but students may also investigate using the extra links that are provided on each city’s designated page.

2. You will then decide how to split your group in two:

• At least two people will compile all of your destination facts onto a poster board which will include pictures that represent the city you are learning about. Also include two other separate poster boards on which you will draw the country flag and map of your destination. Be as colorful and detailed as possible!

• At least two people will be in charge of creating an artistic presentation that will be shown to the entire class. This presentation should highlight the culture of the city that you are learning about. Your presentation can be a:

» Short play
» Dance
» Video
» Diorama
» PowerPoint slideshow

If you have a different idea for your presentation, please ask your teacher first.

3. Using the information that your group has learned, write a short argument together explaining whether or not you think that your group’s city is the correct destination. What have you learned about your country that makes sense with the note’s clues and what does not?

4. After each group has presented and given their argument, the class will come together as a whole to review the note. You should all work together to figure out which destination your family is going to take you to this year! Use all of the information you have learned about your own destination as well as those of the rest of the class in order to decode the note. If there is no clear consensus among the entire class, allow students to debate their opinions and put it to a vote. When a class decision has been made, return to this Web Quest Website Process page and click on the Magnifying Glass to find out if you have made the right decision!
